What is the Phoenix Way? 

The Phoenix Way (TPW) is a national collaborative partnership created during the Covid-19 pandemic as a response to the structural inequalities which Black and racially minoritised communities and community-led organisations face in relation to influencing and accessing grant funding in the UK.

The Opportunity 

Lancashire BME Network is the TPW lead for the  North West region. We are currently looking to secure a sub-regional partner to work across Cheshire and Merseyside.  This is initially a 12-month opportunity, with the possibility of an extension between 3 and 5 years subject to funding. 

  Regional Aims

  • To establish or re-establish infrastructure “hubs” across the North West.  
  • To carry out a mapping exercise of “Black” led VCFSE organisations at sub-region and regional level.   
  • Conduct research to identify areas of need within the “Black” VCFSE and in communities.    
  • Facilitate training and workshops for “Black” led VCFSE organisations to build their capacity.   
  • Support the establishment of a regional grant-making panel. 

Outcomes

  • Improved knowledge of how many “black” led groups exist in the NW region.   
  • Better and more Up-to-date understanding of the needs of “black” communities.   
  • Improved collaborative working practices across the sub-regions, i.e.  sharing resources, training   
  • Increased awareness and understanding of TPW within the wider VCSFE and public sector.   
  • A more consistent/joined-up approach to infrastructure support.   
  • Improved understanding of the importance of race, equity, and equality being embedded into systems, services, and processes. 
  • Improved understanding and implementation of anti-discriminatory practices.
