LBN Consultations – IMPORTANT!!
Lancashire BME Network is undertaking a number of consultations currently in order to gauge existing BME provision and identify what gaps in service there are across the County. We will use this information to direct strategic developments, to raise awareness of gaps in service, and to provide our communities with the evidence needed for further funding in the future.
The consultation survey that we are currently working on relates to Advice and Guidance services available to BME communities; this could be through specifically BME organisations, or advice and guidance services available to the anyone that BME communities can access.
This mapping exercise will help us to identify gaps in service, partners who can work across gaps in service, and provide the research needed to secure external funding, so it is important that we have as much feedback as possible. Share the survey with any group you know offers any type of advice or guidance services and please complete it if your organisation offers any advice or guidance services.
Funding Workshop A big thank you to all those who attending the Funding Workshop we hosted last week. Initial feedback from groups has been positive, and the “speed date” format of the event certainly made for an interesting evening!
LBN are offering a specific Awards for All workshop on the 16th June (see further down) so if you think Awards for All is where you want to be applying, have a look at the workshop and book on.
Calling all volunteers in Preston – LBN need you!
LBN are looking for volunteers who live in Preston and surrounding areas to volunteer on our new Cancer Screening Project. Currently, Cancer Screening uptake for Cervical, Breast, and Bowel screening programmes within BME communities is significantly lower in Lancashire, especially in Preston. We are working in partnership with six specific GP practices in Preston with the aim of encouraging more of their patients to attend Cancer Screening programmes; these screening programmes could save your life. If you have a few hours you can spare each week and want to get involved in this new project, then we would like to hear from you. Volunteers will ideally be able to communicate in a relevant minority language (for example Gujrati, Urdu, Punjabi, Polish etc). Full training will be provided and out of pocket expenses will be paid to volunteers. For further information, contact Humma Nizami at LBN on 01254 392974.
PEEF Launch “A Stitch in Time”
A Stitch in Time is a 12 month Heritage Lottery funded project that has just launched by a member of ours; Peoples Enterprise and Empowerment Forum. The key aim of A Stitch in Time is to bring together younger and older Asian people in Brierfield to learn from each other about the history of Asian settlers in the area. The project will enable young people to be directly involved in recording of oral stories from older people, who will in return learn computer skills with the help of the younger people. A website will be developed by participants which will include interview extracts, photographs, and historical facts from the Asian community in Pendle.
Project activities will include Reminiscence events, IT workshops, visits to Bradford Museum and Queens Mill, and the website development.
It looks an extremely exciting project and LBN were in attendance for the launch event to celebrate PEEF securing the funding.
LBN can help you with Cv”s, interview preparation, job search, carer”s advice and much more! Book an appointment now with one of our specialist employment workers who work across Lancashire. Call: 01254 392974 or Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
